Michael D. Budney is the Manager of the Department of Energy's (DOE) Savannah River Site, where he leads a workforce of more than 11,000 to perform the Office of Environmental Management's important missions, including nuclear material storage and disposition; tank waste cleanup; and management of Savannah River National Laboratory.
Prior to his assignment to SRS, Mr. Budney was the Director of the Office of Business Operations in the DOE Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.
He is a retired Navy Captain with 29 years of service. Mr. Budney's final military assignment was as Deputy Director of the Nuclear Command and Control System Support Staff, performing oversight duties of all aspects of the national nuclear command and control system for the Commander of U.S. Strategic Command.
He holds a bachelor's degree in physics from the U.S. Naval Academy, a Master of Science degree in electrical engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School, and an MBA from the University of Maryland University College.
