In her present position, Ms. Marshall is responsible for K-12 outreach and engagement for students and educators; outreach, recruitment and retention for undergraduate and graduate students; teaching an introductory course section in engineering and problem solving; and, advising students. Her focus lies in nuclear engineering education, outreach and engagement, and student retention.
An active member of the American Nuclear Society (ANS) since 2003, her current leadership positions includes chair of the Education Training and Workforce Development Division, chair of the Professional Women of ANS (PWANS), and adviser for NC State's ANS Student Chapter and the Women in Nuclear Student Chapter.
Active at regional and local levels, Ms. Marshall is a former chair of the ANS-Eastern Carolina Section and former chair of the Nuclear & Radiological Engineering Division for the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE).
She is recipient of the ANS Landis Public Communication and Education Award (2009) and was recently inducted into Sigma Xi, a scientific research society.
Ms. Marshall is also an active member of the Carolinas' Nuclear Cluster (regional economic development around nuclear technologies), the American Society of Engineering Education, and NC State's Women in Science and Engineering program.
She will present/discuss the national Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) trends and how ANS, as a professional organization, and North Carolina State, as one of the schools preparing students, are working to attract and retain students in the discipline.
