Walt Loring, a graduate of University of Lowell, Massachusetts, is an American Board-certified health physicist with more than thirty-five years of radiation safety experience. Currently he is the Interim Associate Vice President for Environmental Health and Safety and Radiation Safety Officer at Georgia Regents University.
During his Army career Walt served as the Army Radiation Safety Officer, the Radiological Hygiene Consultant to the Army Surgeon General, and the Army health physics specialty leader. His assignments included Chief, Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Sciences Branch, Army Medical Department Center and School; Deputy Scientific Director, Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute; and Chief, Health Physics at Eisenhower, Letterman, and Madigan Army Medical Centers.
At Savannah River Site Mr. Loring held numerous health and safety management positions including Manager, Health Physics Technology; Manager, Health Protection Operations; and Manager, Health and Safety Programs. He helped establish the radiological control technologist training program at Aiken Technical College, and he is a Past President of the Savannah River Chapter of the Health Physics Society. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Health Physics. Walt and his wife Rhonda live in Martinez, Georgia.
